What he said

via Marco (I don’t think I understand reblogging.)

What I Want for Christmas: Not a Damn Thing

I was going to write something about this, but this guy said it better than I was going to.

When I really want something, I buy it. […] What this means for everyone else, however, is that all the really obvious stuff to get me is taken off the table, because I’ve already gone out and gotten it. Done and done. What’s left then is a whole bunch of stuff I don’t really want, and I don’t see why people should feel obliged to buy me something I don’t really want, just because it’s the holidays.

Too bad it’s too late for this year.

Thanks for the link, Peroty.

Moving takes its toll — I’m unshaven and in glasses

Almost moved in… Just one more box and organizing the stuff on the bed.

You can’t tell but I’m on the lanai in my new place in the new year. 2008 is a go.

A list of the 50 most loathsome people in America… (kottke.org)

#9 is “you” because:
You believe in freedom of speech, until someone says something that offends you. You suddenly give a damn about border integrity, because the automated voice system at your pharmacy asked you to press 9 for Spanish. You cling to every scrap of bullshit you can find to support your ludicrous belief system, and reject all empirical evidence to the contrary. You know the difference between patriotism and nationalism — it’s nationalism when foreigners do it. You hate anyone who seems smarter than you. You care more about zygotes than actual people. You love to blame people for their misfortunes, even if it means screwing yourself over.

A list

  • Taste of Home Cookbook
  • Towels
  • Two S.M. Stirling novels
  • A Four Seasons Calendar (not the hotels)
  • Money
  • Gift certificates to Wal-Mart, Borders, Huggo’s
  • 2 GB SD memory card
  • A Journal

The first two are great because I’m moving into a new place on the first, which will have a kitchen — something I haven’t had for 8 months. Novels are always good. The four seasons calendar is to help fight the nostalgia I’ve been getting for the changing seasons since I now live in Hawaii (Thanks, Mom!). Money is, well, money. Gift cards are almost as good as money. The memory card is GREAT, so now I don’t have to keep using my one card for everything I have that uses SD cards (I’m looking at you Coolpix!)

And the journal is the best. My late grandfather kept a daily journal. He could look back anytime and see what happened on any particular day, see where he was, what the temperature was like. I feel honored that my mother decided I would be worthy of continuing a tradition from such a great man.

I hope to do you proud, Grandpa.
